(opens new window) Get Ready—Get Local! is a public event for people in and around Port Burwell, Vienna, East Elgin and the Big Otter Creek watershed. Gardeners will enjoy the "Seedy Saturday" part of the day (see sidebar on the right), which includes a seed swap table, master gardeners and seed vendors.
Get Ready—Get Local is a day for people to show-and-tell the good things they've been doing for the environment, the community, and the local economy. Port Burwell and Vienna have many hidden gems, some old some new, who care deeply for both the community and the land. We're bringing them together to describe, explain and inspire.
Why local? The future is local, that's why. With global oil depletion setting in, our gasoline-dependent transportation, distribution and agricultural systems will make our current way of life, well, impossibly expensive. Read more (on this site) about localism and how some communities are responding to these concerns.
Please note that admission is on a first-come basis. The hall holds 60. We will accomodate as many as possible, but it may get a bit crowded. We're not able to do advance ticket "sales", since there is no set admission price. The entry fee is your donation to Seeds of Diversity-- we suggest $10 for employed, and $5.00 for students or unemployed / underemployed.
